　　我的爷爷年近六旬，两鬓斑白，戴着一副眼镜。爷爷的英语特别好，周围的人都很羡慕他，可谁能知道他学英语付出了多少心血呢？

　　爷爷特别关心国家大事，自从中国加入世贸组织，中国人学英语的积极性空前高涨。正好社区里办了个英语补习班，爷爷便去报了名，他把这个秘密告诉了我，还叫我别跟别人说。我哈哈大笑说：“您学英语笑死人了。”爷爷却说：“一年后，咱们就比谁的`英语好，怎么样？”我爽快地说：“好！”但晚餐时，我却公开了这个消息。爸爸、妈妈、奶奶都捧腹大笑，奶奶说：“你呀！你呀！都这把年纪了，还学什么英语，传出去让人家笑落大门牙！”妈妈说：“您60多岁了，还有这样的雄心壮志？”爷爷沉默了一会儿，生气地说：“我国改革开放30多年来，许多外国人来中国，我外出旅游，碰上外国人，不就可以用英语和外国人交流吗？”爸爸见爷爷生气了，就说：“好！您去学吧！”爷爷学英语的劲头可足啦！每天早上6点前就起床，从练习读26个字母开始，再读记词组……有时把我给吵醒了，我便对爷爷说：“您怎么这么烦……”爷爷说：“你睡吧，我不吵了。”我想：您不吵谁信……早上，我和爷爷一起去买菜，爷爷边走，边念着ABC，旁边的人都望着我们俩笑，我满脸通红，就小声对爷爷说：“您别练了，别人还以为我俩是神经病呢！”爷爷却毫不在意地说：“怕什么，无所谓。”我只好离爷爷远一点了。晚上，我和爷爷一起睡，9点了，爷爷一直在读英语。我夜里起来上厕所时，睁开眼睛，一道刺眼的光向我射来，我一看手表：“呀！12点多了。”我催爷爷睡觉，他拿我没办法，只好睡觉了。

　　五六个月过去了，我想知道爷爷的英语学得怎么样，便偷偷地听他练习英语，爷爷讲的英语前面的我明白，可后面的我却一点也听不懂，只好去问他老人家，爷爷笑着对我说：“小子，你的英语不如我哩！”一年多过去了，爷爷的英语，让我没话好说了。

　　Jiaozi is my favourite food. Since childhood I haw learned how to make it. There are five steps.

　　First you make the dough by mixing water into the flour. The container shculd be big enough lest the flour and water will overflow. Press the dough with your hands till it is not sticky. When the dough is ready, leave it there for use later, then go on to make the fillings.

　　The second step is to mince the meat, mushrooms and shnmps till they are mixed in a paste. Add some spice such as ginger and onion and stir them evenly.

　　The third step is to make the wrappings. Roll the dough with a round stick into small round pieces of wrappings, each two inches in diameter.

　　The fourth step is to put the filling in the middle of a wrapping. Then press the wrapping tight and a jiaozi is ready. When you have made enough Jiaozi, the next step is to boil them.

　　That is the last step. Put a pot of water on the stove. When the water is boiling, put the Jiaozi one by one into the water and cover the pot. When steam comes out, add more cold water and when it boils again add cold water a second time. When you see the Jiaozi floating in boiling water, you can put them in bowls or plates, get the chopsticks and be ready to eat.

　　饺子是我喜欢的食物。从童年起我就学会了包饺子，共有5个步骤。

　　第1步，先用水和面，和面盆要大些，以免水和面溢出。用手揉面团，直到不粘手为止。和好面以后，将做饺馅。

　　第2步，剁肉馅，将蘑菇和虾米搅拌成糊状，放入调味品如姜、葱，并把馅搅匀。

　　第3步，做饺皮。用擀面杖擀出一张张直径为两英寸的`圆饺皮。

　　第4步，把馅放入饺皮中，捏紧饺皮，一个饺子就做成了。饺子包够了，下一步就是煮饺子。

　　煮饺子是最后的一步，锅中放上水，搁在炉灶上烧，水开时，一个一个地把饺子放入开水中，盖上锅盖。水冒气时，要加些冷水;水开时，再加第2次冷水。当饺子漂浮上来时，盛入碗中，准备好碗筷，即可食用。

　　“大声跟我读——A”镜头缓缓拉近，明亮的灯光下一个小姑娘正兴致勃勃地当着小老师，告诉你吧，那个老师就是我，至于学生是谁呢？哈，卖个关子，让我慢慢道来。

　　最近我发现妈妈的英语个别发音很不标准，我心中不禁萌发出一个念头—搞个速成培训班教妈妈学英语。我左哄右骗，死拉硬缠，终于把妈妈这个学生给逼上了梁山，于是我的“teacth”生涯就开始了。

　　一复习巩固

　　根据我的教学大纲，决定先帮妈妈复习巩固一下英文字母。我让妈妈先背一遍字母歌，不背不知道，一听吓一跳，妈妈有好几个字母发音大走样，我只好让妈妈按照我的要求把那些字母每个读30遍。开始妈妈很虚心，可到后来就不耐烦了说：“我那么聪明只要读三遍就好了，哪用读那么多遍呀？”看来妈妈还真是死鸭子—嘴硬，我得改变策略，硬的不行来软的，我陪着笑脸说：“妈妈，熟能生巧，业精于勤，你读得不错，如果能巩固巩固，就更好了。”这招还真管用，服软不服硬的妈妈又认真学了起来，不久字母就搞定了。

　　二单词训练

　　学完字母，当然是学单词啦！我先教妈妈最简单的，我本想看妈妈的.好戏，没曾想妈妈又快又标准地“吐”出这几个单词，嗯，看来妈妈的基础还不差，这几个单词还难不倒她吗！我坏笑着决定给妈妈增加一点难度，果然不出我所料，我教的这几个单词，妈妈都没学过，发音就更别提多走样了。我反复纠正，可妈妈就是我行我素，正当我苦思冥想着如何纠正时，瞧见妈妈偷偷摸摸地在本子上写着什么，我很奇怪，趁妈妈不注意之时，一把抢过本子一看，差点笑掉大牙，原来妈妈把“waterbbottle”写成了“我偷抱头”，英译中了，我看了把肚子都笑疼了，我边学边把本子还给妈妈，妈用这个笨办法搞定了不少短语和单词呢！

　　三完美考核

　　眼看我对妈妈的培训就快告一段落了，我决定给妈妈来一次出其不意的考试。一天中午，我把妈妈叫到客厅，开始考试，这一考妈妈就露出了庐山真面目，她回答的牛头不对马嘴。唉！姜虽然是老的辣，但还是要认真呀！我甩下一句话：“三心二意，一事无成，一定要认真复习。”以后只要妈妈有空，就总瞧见妈妈在复习，功夫不负有心人，有一天，妈妈来接我，我见机连忙又考起妈妈，妈妈一愣，然后流利地回答起来，听得出来，那些单词短语妈妈也是花了心思的。

　　我教会了妈妈学英语，我的教学生涯也告一段落了，接下来我又要为我的速成培训班物色新学生了。

　　"No Spitting !"

　　With SARS gradually passing its peak, more and more people take off their gauze masks. They feel released and have more freedom to breathe in fresh air. However, a certain number of people have restored their bad habit and start to spit everywhere. Now and then, whether in the street, or on the bus, or in city gardens, we will see some people, the fine ladies and gentilemen, spitting without feeling a bit ashamed as shown in the picture. When shown the" NO SPITTING !sign, they just turn a blind eye to it. Still worse, people around have to be on guard against the sudden attack of ＇spit

　　shot" from the spitters.

　　Spitting is a terrible habit. For one thing, it is-entirely uncivilized. The world has entered the 21st century and human civilization has reached a more advanced stage.Why can＇t those people remove this ugly habit? Is it because they think the earth is a gigantic spittoon? For another thing, spitting does great harm to public health. According to chemical laboratory test, one sputum contains thousands upon thousands of germs and SARS viruses if the spitter is a SARS Sufferer. As was reported, the Beijing Municipal Government once mobilized an army of a thousand sanitation workers to clean out the mess in Tian An Men Square.

　　For people to get rid of this uncivilized behaviour, we suggest local authorities strengthen education by publicizing the harmfulness of spitting, and at the same time, enforce the law of punishment.

　　Finally, we, citizens of the earth, must he self-disciplined, love our Mother Earth and don＇t dirty her.
