　　what is the origin of the world? one theory is that there is no origin at all and the world has been there always. however, this leads to a parado since if there was infinitely long time before us then we would not have emerged at all. but if we never emerged in this world then how could we be asking the question here? so it is logically more plausible that the world has an origin. having laid down the foundation of our discussion, now we can proceed to consider the theories about the origin of the world. a person believing in god will say an omnipotent diving being created the world and provided all the physical principles governing it. an atheist, on the contrary, will contend that there is no god and the world evolved to its form today on itself. both theories are plausible and we cannot prove or disprove, with reasonable confidence, either one of them. however, it is arguably favorable for a person to believe in one of the theories, so as to have a basic comprehension of the world we are living in. these questions may seem trivial to normal people but could be intriguing to philosophers, mathematicians, and theoreticians. i hope i can become one of those people.

　　my sister and i spent last christmas day at our aunt＇s cabin①.

　　although it takes only half an hour to drive there from our home. we don＇t go there very often. to me the place is like another world. it is very peaceful. my aunt owns 20 acres② of woods with a little stream running through it. the cabin is surrounded by hills and the stream flows before it. the cabin is very small, maybe only half the size of a classroom, just big enough for a couple to live in. water from the stream can be used for washing only, because the people living upstream ③ often made the water too dirty to drink. drinking water has to be brought in from another place.

　　there is no electricity there, and therefore oil lamps are used in the evenings. there is a small wood-burning stove that looks like a fireplace. we are very comfortable in the evenings with the glow④ of the fire and the light of the oil lamps. there is no telephone or television set. no one bothers us, so we can enjoy a very quiet life. i think it is very romantic. i especially like to go there in winter. when big snow flakes ⑤ are falling outside, we are warm inside the cabin. now it＇s only a good memory for me, as my aunt left there a few months ago.

　　Marcel Hirscher continued his dominant start to the alpine skiing World Cup season with yet more milestones on Sunday.

　　The Austrian, seeking an unprecedented fifth consecutive overall title, became the first man to win three successive giant slalom races at the Alta Badia venue, in Italy's Dolomite mountains.

　　He claimed the World Cup lead from Aksel Lund Svindal, moving 20 points ahead of the Norwegian -- who was 28th, following his two speed-event wins in preceding days at nearby Val Gardena.

　　Hirscher claimed his fourth victory this season, and his third in giant slalom -- a technical discipline where he already leads by 134 points after only four rounds.

　　He was 0.19 seconds ahead of Norway's Henrik Kristoffersen after the two runs, while France's Victor Muffat-Jeandet was third.

　　"I skied at my 100% limit in the second run," Hirscher said after the 35th win of his career put him one behind sixth-placed compatriot Benjamin Raich in the all-time standings.

　　"It was difficult snow, not as icy as we're used to here in Alta Badia and I think that Henrik skied a smoother run, but I gave it all my power and in the end I am really happy to come away with the win."

　　In Sunday's women's action, Eva-Maria Brem made it a double giant slalom success for Austria by winning in Courchevel, France.
